Who is Emily Makes Coffee?

Emily Losier is a Calgary-based coffee professional, educator, and content creator behind @emily.makes.coffee, a platform dedicated to educating and progressing the coffee industry further through her thought-provoking writing & short-form content.

Through her online work, Emily documents her lived experiences of working as a barista and how she uniquely engages with coffee. Her content combines education with storytelling, and connection through shared experiences; her objective through this content is to advocate for the voices in the coffee industry that often are unheard, and to generate dialogue that opens up common issues/problems that baristas face daily to inspire change and growth. Her writing has earned her #82 on Substack's "Rising Creators" in the Food & Drink category, and short-form content led to collaborations with notable coffee & clothing companies in Canada, including gravitypope, Poppy Barley, and Sam James Coffee Bar. 

Emily's education is backed by her six years in the specialty coffee industry working as a barista, focusing on team leadership and hospitality. She has an extensive teaching background from leading entry-level coffee-based classes for beginner baristas, to in-depth presentations on the industry itself for coffee professionals. She brings extensive knowledge in the home barista industry; focusing on social media marketing and making both machines and tools accessible and easily understood for the average home user. She 

Her content creation journey has grown exponentially since her first social media post in May 2025. Her content has been described as "necessary," and "a breath of fresh air in the coffee industry." Her goal has always been to bring authenticity and honesty to everything she creates. Her growing online presence has positioned her as a unique voice in the coffee space; one that combines technical skill, thoughtful hospitality, and a creative approach to coffee media.
